Creating learning activities requires careful thought about the skills you want learners to gain and the way in which they are presented. This course, stemming from research conducted by the Stanford Research Institute, will give you a framework within which to assess your own learning activities with regards to student learning, advance your innovative teaching practices, and discuss them with others. Each session will focus on a specific dimension of learning and use actual teacher lesson plans as the basis for our conversations.

Attending all 8 sessions over the five weeks will earn you the “21st Century Learning Design Trained Educator” Designation.

LCISD’s New Staff Development Portal: ASCEND

It is with great anticipation that we finally get to unveil our new Staff Development portal – ASCEND! Over the past few months the Staff Development office has been diligently working on moving our system to a new, completely online system that allows for all users to easily search, sign-up, and get additional resources for staff developments offered both in our district and approved outside locations!

The system is designed to be amazingly simple for both the normal user that simply needs to sign up for a course, but also for our numerous staff members who desire to create staff development opportunities for anyone in the district to take. To see a quick promo of the new system, check out the video below:

Due to high traffic – Please click play then pause to allow the video to fully load before playing

To login to the system all you need to do is login to D2SC and click on the new button titled ASCEND from the main menu screen.
ASCEND Button in D2SC

For non-D2SC users, you can click on the Staff Development link inside LamarNet.

We hope you find the transition to this new system amazingly smooth. To aide you in this new system, we’ve created a simple video that walks you through the process of searching for a staff development course and then how register for that course. You can watch it below or check it out on the main page of ASCEND.

Due to high traffic – Please click play then pause to allow the video to fully load before playing

This new system is going to allow us a whole new level of effectiveness in our staff developments and we look forward to all the great things it will bring. If you have any questions or comments on the new system, please feel free to email us at ascend@lcisd.org. Thanks and happy ascending!
