I’ve been working with the blue screen transition that Chris Nilsson showed us at his TCEA workshop. I keep getting noticeable black spots showing through on the photo that I’m laying over the top of the other photo in Movie Maker. Any tips on how to fix these spots on the photo?

Ann, it sounds like there may be some shades of blue in your top image. Remember that the Chroma Blue (or the Chroma Non-Red) have a wide tolerance for color selection. So any blue will become transparent…not just the blue background. Try opening the xml file that contains the transitions (maybe croma.xml) and look for the transition name that you are using and modify the Similarity value. Right now it may be 100…you need to lower it. Here is a full xml that you could try.

I was in this class and I left confused…are you going to post the notes for your session? I really want to understand. To get these to work do I add them to the Movie Maker Program files? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the suggestion on changing the similarity value. I worked on it with one of the tech guys here for a while and got a little improvement but could never get rid of the spots completely.

We taped some video footage in front of a homemade blue screen (large fabric pieces) and then put it in Movie Maker with the chroma blue transition. It did not work very well at all. We kept getting most of the blue screen blocking out the other picture. If we ordered a blue screen meant for video production would we have better luck?

Sorry to hear that you are having trouble. I would play with homemade solutions before buying a production screen. Brighter sheets, painted shower board, lights to remove any shadows…Can you post a frame of the raw video somewhere? I’d love to see the setup before trouble shooting it!

I can have the webmaster here put the video on our library web site for a couple of days. You want just the blue screen video footage not the whole project file, correct? It is a 36 second video.

Chris, I worked with the blue screen again this morning and I think our main problem is that we don’t have enough light. I brought a portable work light from home and had a student shine it on the blue screen behind the person I was video taping and when I put that footage in Movie Maker I didn’t have the blue screen showing through like before.

          Thanks!

Hello Chris, I am getting ready to paint my shower boards; however, I forgot what color I can use to paint them with? Also, where can I purchase the paint at?

    Thanks!

Hi Chris, I guess I didn’t take great notes at TCEA. Once I copy all the files from the pen drive to my laptop. I think I’m supposed to make a folder and that the name is caps specific. Is that correct? And if so, what is the folder and where I do store the folder?

Ann Vickman helped me figure out my previous question. But now I have another. I’m trying to use the Composite B on A transition but it’s not working. I’m adding my clip first and then dragging in the video slide over it. Then applying the transition to no avail. Please advise. TIA

Can I get a copy of your Movie Maker Presentation? I want to try this but I don’t have all the details.
    Thanks!
